The compensation offered to the candidate selected for the position will depend on several factors, including the candidate's educational background, skills and professional experience.

The position is remote, but candidates must be based in New Jersey, New York or Pennsylvania.

Job Overview:

The Director of Coding ensures compliance with Federal and State Coding guidelines by ensuring the accuracy and integrity of data. The Director is responsible for providing leadership and oversight to the Coding Managers, Data Analysts and outsourced coding vendors ensuring timely completion of all department activities. The Director acts as liaison and reference for all interdepartmental individuals and teams throughout the organization

Qualifications:

Required:

  • Bachelor of Science in Health Information Management
  • Knowledge of Windows, Microsoft Office Suite of products, 3M Coding and Reimbursement program, Citrix, EPIC and SMART software systems
  • 5 years of Inpatient coding experience
  • 3-5 years of experience in a managerial position, preferably at a large multi-facility healthcare organization
  • Extensive knowledge of ICD-10 CM/PCS and CPT coding, medical terminology, human anatomy and physiology, and clinical indicators associated with disease processes and pharmacology
  • Extensive knowledge of billing and coding regulations
  • Ability to organize, plan and multitask within a fast paced, high pressure environment

Preferred:

  • Excellent interpersonal relationship skills and maintaining professional demeanor to foster relationships within and outside of the coding team
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Certifications and Licenses Required:

  • Current RHIA certification
  • CCS certification

Scheduling Requirements:

  • Shift working, 8:00am - 4:30pm each day
  • Monday - Friday
  • Full Time

Essential Functions:

  • Provides sound direction and educational support to the Coding department to promote optimal performance
  • Facilitates the overall performance management of the Coding department team
  • Ensure the quality of all coding meets Federal, State and Corporate standards
  • Ensures complete and accurate coding and charging with adherence to coding guidelines and standards and the utilization of SMART PWC software.  Focusing in on accurate DRG and APC assignment, Severity of Illness, Risk of Mortality, HCC and Elixhauser diagnoses
  • Oversee preparation of reports related to coding for internal and external use
  • Monitors coding vendor services for accuracy while fostering a positive relationship and educating as needed
  • Works with the EPIC IT&S Team to utilize the EPIC system to the fullest; streamlining workflows and automating as much functionality as possible.
  • Lead project teams in the design and configuration of coding workflows utilizing Epic and ensuring best practices.
  • Analyzes processes and problems ranging from system backlogs to personnel issues and develops resolution to identified problems.
  • Oversees the analysis, root causation of data discrepancies, and establishes a feedback workflow to ensure high reliability is maintained.
  • Participates in process improvement activities, as well as the development and implementation of new products and system upgrades.
  • Promotes cooperation and works collaboratively as a liaison for Coding operations with key departments to continually improve the Revenue Cycle Workflow:  EPIC IT&S, Patient Access, Clinical Documentation Improvement, Case Management, Quality, Ancillary and Billing.
