Job Description

The Department of Molecular, Cell & Systems Biology at the University of California, Riverside invites applicants for open-rank, full-time positions as a Specialist, Project Scientist, and Postdoc in Molecular Biology and Immunology of the Microbiome to conduct applied research for the Brown Lab in Riverside, CA. The purpose of this position is to assay microbiological determinants of immunity in humans and animal models. The final candidate will conduct research related to the ecology, evolution, and immune response of/to the microbiome. The candidate will work with both human clinical samples and animal models, with research questions focusing on perinatal health and reproductive health. Research projects will span microbiological, virological, and immunological questions and there will be ample opportunities to develop expertise with techniques in all fields. The start date for this position is intended to be as soon as possible. Position rank will be commensurate with qualifications.

Specialist Information:

The current base pay range for this position is $53,100 - $188,200.

Basic qualification that must be met by the date of application is experience performing general molecular biology, microbiology, and/or immunology techniques. This includes >1-year experience working in a research laboratory and demonstrated proficiency with the following techniques: nucleic acid extraction, q/PCR, preparation of amplicon/metagenome sequencing libraries, ELISAs/ ELISpots.

Additional qualification that must be met by the date of hire is a BS or MS in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Public Health, or related field.

Preferred qualifications include experience with: preparation of single cell suspensions, cloning, microbiological cell culture, eukaryotic cell culture, work with animal models, flow cytometry, cell sorting.

Project Scientist Information:

The current base pay range for this position is $74,100 - $195,000.

Basic qualification that must be met by the date of application is experience performing general molecular biology, microbiology, and/or immunology techniques. This includes >1-year experience working in a research laboratory and demonstrated proficiency with the following techniques: nucleic acid extraction, q/PCR, preparation of amplicon/metagenome sequencing libraries, ELISAs/ ELISpots.

Additional qualification that must be met by the date of hire is a Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Public Health, or related field.

Preferred qualifications include experience with: preparation of single cell suspensions, cloning, microbiological cell culture, eukaryotic cell culture, work with animal models, flow cytometry, cell sorting and work with organoid systems. Experience using and/or developing bioinformatics pipelines and familiarity with R, python, and shell scripting are desirable.

Postdoc Information:

The current base pay range for this position is $66,737- $80,034.

Basic qualification that must be met by the date of application is experience performing general molecular biology, microbiology, and/or immunology techniques. This includes >1-year experience working in a research laboratory and demonstrated proficiency with the following techniques: nucleic acid extraction, q/PCR, preparation of amplicon/metagenome sequencing libraries, ELISAs/ ELISpots.

Additional qualification that must be met by the date of hire is a Ph.D. in Life Sciences, Bioinformatics, Statistics, Public Health, or related field.

Preferred qualifications include interest and experience with public health and/or infectious disease research and questions and experience with: preparation of single cell suspensions, cloning, microbiological cell culture, eukaryotic cell culture, work with animal models, flow cytometry, cell sorting, and experience working with organoid systems. Experience using and/or developing bioinformatics pipelines and familiarity with R, python, and shell scripting is desirable.

Advancement through the Specialist and Project Scientist ranks at the University of California is through a series of structured, merit-based evaluations, occurring every 2-3 years, each of which includes substantial peer input. This is not applicable to Postdocs, since they receive an annual level increase.
