The Business Technology Team Okta’s Business Technology (BT) team delivers the systems, tools, and services that power internal operations across the company. From core infrastructure to enterprise platforms, we partner across functions to drive scale, reliability, and innovation through technology.

The Staff Site Reliability Engineer Opportunity We are looking for an experienced Staff BT Site Reliability Engineer to help build, improve, and maintain our cloud platform services. The Site Reliability Engineering team delivers foundational infrastructure capabilities that enable corporate engineering teams to operate securely, reliably, and at scale. You’ll play a key role in designing and implementing complex cloud-based engineering enablement systems, with a strong focus on automation, testing, and operational excellence. This is a lean, agile team where innovation is encouraged and every engineer has visible impact. What you’ll be doing 

  • Build, run, and monitor development tools, pipelines, and infrastructure with a security-first mindset.
  • Design, implement, and maintain secure, scalable, and reliable cloud infrastructure aligned with best practices.
  • Drive initiatives to evolve and modernize cloud platforms to improve efficiency and align with current standards.
  • Support Agile processes by contributing to stories, demos, architecture sessions, and team knowledge sharing.
  • Create and maintain technical documentation, network diagrams, runbooks, and recovery procedures.
  • Partner with and educate software engineers to ensure infrastructure supports development needs and follows DevOps principles.
  • Develop and enforce infrastructure policies, standards, and procedures, particularly for secure and regulated environments.
  • Deliver excellent internal customer service and advocate for SRE and DevOps practices across teams.

What you’ll bring to the role

  • 7+ years of experience as an SRE, DevOps Engineer, Cloud Automation Engineer, or Systems Engineer with a track record of delivering complex infrastructure projects at scale.
  • Proficient in AWS, particularly in authentication, governance, and org management tools such as AWS Orgs, IAM, Identity Center, and StackSets. Expert in building and maintaining infrastructure in AWS.
  • Proficient in infrastructure automation using Terraform and developing automation tools with Python, while leveraging secure software development practices.
  • Hands-on experience managing AWS multi-account environments and enabling centralized governance across hundreds of AWS accounts.
  • Skilled in Git-based workflows and CI/CD pipeline development using tools like GitLab and GitHub Actions.
  • Experience with monitoring tools, especially Splunk, CloudWatch, and the Grafana stack.
  • Experience with general networking concepts, such as BGP and IPsec management,  and has leveraged AWS networking services, including VPCs, TGWs, and VPC endpoints.

And extra credit if you have experience in the following

  • Experience with container orchestration and runtime environments, including EKS, ECS Fargate, and general container usage.
  • Knowledgeable in Linux system administration.
  • Experience in secure and compliant environments (e.g., FedRAMP), with understanding of FIPS, STIG, and data boundary implementations.

The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in the San Francisco Bay area is between: $188,000—$282,000 USD

Below is the annual base salary range for candidates located in California, Colorado, New York and Washington. Your actual base salary will depend on factors such as your skills, qualifications, experience, and work location. In addition, Okta offers equity (where applicable), bonus, and benefits, including health, dental and vision insurance, 401(k), flexible spending account, and paid leave (including PTO and parental leave) in accordance with our applicable plans and policies. The annual base salary range for this position for candidates located in California (excluding San Francisco Bay Area), Colorado, New York, and Washington is between: $168,000—$252,000 USD
