Under general direction of the Supervising Special Investigator II, the Supervising Special Investigator I (SSI I) oversees the activities of the Enforcement Unit.  The SSI I will supervise, plan, organize, and directs the work of Special Investigators performing investigations, inspections, and enforcement activities of institutions, approved and/or unapproved by the Bureau for Private Postsecondary Education (Bureau). The SSI I will work closely with the Supervising Special Investigator II in order to develop strategies for managing program fraud and abuse; assist in planning and directing major investigation activities; prepare various management reports and related documents; and act for the Supervising Special Investigator II in their absence.

Working Conditions

Candidates who reside outside of the State of California may be admitted to the job interview. However, they must reside in the State of California once they are hired and start working.

The incumbent may be required to travel throughout an assigned geographical area by various methods of transportation.


The incumbent works 40 hours per week in an office setting. A remote-centered (more than 50% telework) flexible schedule may be available for this position. The position is headquartered in Sacramento, CA.

Special Requirements

The position(s) require(s) a valid driver's license (DL). Provide a photocopy in PDF format of the front and back of your DL, clearly showing your name as stated on the license, issuing state, DL number, class, and expiration.

Conflict of Interest: This position is subject to Title 16, section 3830 of the California Code of Regulations, the Department of Consumer Affairs' Conflict of Interest Regulations.  The incumbent is required to submit a Statement of Economic Interests (Form 700) within 30 days of assuming office, annually by April 1, and within 30 days of leaving office.

• Ability to instill a cohesive, team-focused environment and manage multiple priorities under tight time-frames.

• Ability to remain flexible and adapt to rapid changes in assignments without compromising accuracy.

• Ability to research, identify, and synthesize complex information for the purpose of communication what is essential at an executive level, while considering impact, risk, and long term needs.

• Experience creating and implementing action plans.
