Welding Engineer

Canton, MI

Must-Haves:

  • Four-year technical degree or 10+ years of related welding/engineering experience
  • Experience in resistance welding (preferred)
  • Automotive manufacturing background strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of welding processes, robotics, controls, and automation systems
  • Understanding of Lean Manufacturing principles
  • Strong project management, problem-solving, and technical documentation skills

Position Overview:

We are seeking an experienced Welding Engineer to develop, support, and optimize welding and joining processes within a fast-paced manufacturing environment. This role involves equipment design and integration, process improvement, training, and collaboration with engineering, production, and leadership teams.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and support welding and joining equipment, including robotics and control systems
  • Conduct Weld Excellence training (Basic Welding, T-Joint Weld, Multi-Pass Weld, Weld Symbols, Weld Maps, etc.)
  • Design, evaluate, and improve manufacturing methods and processes
  • Analyze workflow, workforce utilization, and facility layouts to maximize operational efficiency
  • Design, specify, and assist with fabrication, assembly, installation, and debugging of welding systems and tooling
  • Lead process design and development of new production techniques
  • Establish weld control standards for new products and programs for all weld centers
  • Coordinate cost estimates, tooling requirements, and change requests
  • Collaborate with management and engineering teams on production capabilities and schedules
  • Serve as acting Engineering Manager in their absence
  • Promote and enforce safety practices, participate in safety initiatives and incident investigations
  • Support plant goals related to safety, environmental sustainability, and continuous improvement

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Four-year technical degree or equivalent experience (10+ years)
  • Experience in resistance welding, robotics integration, and automation systems
  • Strong knowledge of project management, PLCs, and engineering software
  • Experience in automotive manufacturing and Lean Manufacturing concepts
  • Excellent communication, documentation, and time management skills
  • Ability to lead, collaborate across teams, and support equipment troubleshooting
